Casino Royale was a full length film for the James Bond franchise.
While Pierce Brosnan’s four films as a spy have been a financial success, his last two entries, The world is not enough and particularly Die another day received negative reviews.
So when Daniel Craig was chosen to replace Brosnan, the decision was quickly made to take Bond in a new direction.
And that’s exactly why Martin Campbell was brought in to lead the 2006s. Casino Royale, as he had previously supervised Golden eye, Brosnan’s critically acclaimed debut release.

Campbell has now discussed his efforts on Casino Royale, telling Playserver that those behind the James Bond franchise “wanted to bring him back to earth” with the film.
“When I got on board, I felt the same. I felt that the whole needed to have its feet firmly on the ground, ”he said.

One of the main plot points of Casino Royale revolves around Bond taking on Mads Mikkelsen’s terrorist financier Le Chiffre in a high-stakes poker game.
Thinking back to those poker streaks, Campbell said the key to making them “compelling” was that they weren’t all about “card games,” adding, “That’s the stake. It’s also two guys looking at each other, basically. It was the secret.
Casino Royale editor-in-chief Stuart Baird said everyone involved was originally worried about how they “would keep the public engaged in these card games” because they believed people could quickly “get bored with it. that”.

Campbell solved this problem by ensuring that the 30-minute footage of the film set in the casino showcased Bond’s mental abilities as well as his mortality. This was particularly fascinating since Campbell has described Craig’s Bond as “a bull in the china shop” throughout. Casino Royale, adding, “He just throws himself in, no matter the dangers, he doesn’t really think so.”
Craig’s final appearance as Bond will hopefully hit theaters next year, as No time to die is still scheduled for release in April.
