Delaware breaks online casino revenue record again in August


Delaware casino revenue in July set a state record. This mark did not last long.

The First State reset its online casino revenue mark for the second consecutive month in August, taking in $1,296,973 last month.

This new record was a 3.5% increase from July’s $1.25 million. That July total had surpassed the previous norm of $1.22 million set in April.

iGaming’s August handle was $36,826,483, the fourth-best all-time total for the state. This mark bumped the June Delaware casino handle up $34.96 million out of the top five. Last month’s handle was down 6.5% from July (nearly $39.4 million), which also set a state record.

The top five Delaware iGaming grips have all arrived in the last nine months. As for revenue, the first three numbers are all from 2022; May 2020 ($1.13 million) still ranks fourth, according to numbers reported by the Delaware Lottery.

Delaware iGaming August Breakdown

Delaware Park Casino in Wilmington led the state in iGaming in August with $15.8 million, followed by Bally’s Dover at $12.1 million and Harrington Raceway and Casino at $8.9 million .

For revenue, Delaware Park again led with $558,272, followed by Bally’s with $412,044 and Harrington with $326,657.

Delaware One of the six online casino states

Delaware is one of the six states with the best online casino options. The others are Pennsylvania, Michigan, Connecticut, New Jersey and West Virginia.

Other states are at least considering adding iGaming, or have powerful advocates pushing for the additional revenue stream. These states include New York, Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa.

In larger markets, mobile game apps generate tens of millions of dollars in revenue each month. Delaware, of course, wouldn’t expect such a windfall given its population of just over a million.

Still, mobile gaming apps in The First State have been a boon, and the revenue model shows the revenue stream is clearly growing. A month of $30 million for the iGaming handle and $1 million in monthly revenue was a dream not too long ago in Delaware; now these numbers are common.

Delaware sports betting revenue surge

Delaware made small gains in sports betting management and saw a much larger increase in revenue in August compared to July.

Total sports betting revenue for the month of August was $545,877, up 42.5% from July’s $383,249. It was the second month in a row with an increase, but in a state with no mobile sports betting, revenue hasn’t topped $1 million since January.

With the return of football season and Parlay cards available at over 100 outlets statewide this time of year, expect to see a dramatic increase in management and revenue in September for sport bets.

Speaking of sports betting management, that was up 8.4% from $2,678,686 in July to $2,902,652 last month.
