Christmas stocking drive for veterans

HAVERHILL – Stocking Stuffers will be collected from all Battle Grounds Coffee Company locations until December 11 and will be distributed to local Veterans through the support of local Veterans Duty Officers and Veterans Organizations such as the Veterans Northeast Outreach Center, VFW Lorraine Post 29, AmVets Ext 147, and others. This project stems from local veteran Donald Jarvis, who coordinated a Christmas stocking drive last year when more than 100 stockings were donated. Christmas stockings can include thank you cards, hygiene products (men and women), gift cards, puzzle books, candy, and other items. Stockings can be dropped off at Battle Grounds, 39 Washington St. in Haverhill, Cedardale, 931 Boston Road in Bradford, and 33 Pleasant St. in Newburyport.

If you or your organization would like to donate a large number of stockings at the same time, please coordinate the donation with Donald Jarvis at [email protected]

Gift cards and socks for blood donation

HAVERHILL – As the holidays approach and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warns of a potential spike in influenza cases this year, the American Red Cross continues to face an ongoing emergency blood shortage. There is no waiting period for donating blood for those who have received a flu shot or a COVID-19 vaccine or booster, as long as they are asymptomatic. Donors are asked to make an appointment now using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-733-2767.

To encourage donors to help meet the needs of inpatients this month, anyone who donates through November 23 will receive a $ 10 Amazon.com gift card by email, courtesy of Amazon. Those who donate over the Thanksgiving holiday, Nov. 24-28, will receive a pair of Red Cross socks, while supplies last.
